Hanne Heuch and Nina Malterud are both educated within ceramics in the 1970s and have been practitioners for nearly 50 years. They both explore the maximum potential of the materials, pursuing surprising effects from the processes. Heuch works with cast porcelain and glazes, firing at Norsk Teknisk Porselensfabrikk (NTP Products) in Fredrikstad. In this exhibition she presents series of oval bowls. Malterud works with earthenware and glazes fired at lower temperature in her own kiln, and will present flat wall-mounted items in various formats. The artists will be showing individual projects within a cohesive exhibition design.

Hanne Heuch shows a series of oval bowls from 2022. Ever since her education in the mid 1970s she has been interested in industrial porcelain, and had as early as 1981 the possibility to work with her own projects at Porsgrunds Porselænsfabrik. During the later years she has been glazing and firing at NTP Products / Norsk Teknisk Porselensfabrikk in Fredrikstad, and for this exhibition deformation has been a theme. Utilizing two glazes of different recipes, one shiny and one matte, her precise forms deform in various ways achieving a softness not available with other methods.

Hanne Heuch (born in Oslo 1954) is educated at Bergen School of Arts and Crafts 1974-77 and National College of Art and Design in Oslo 1978-79, and has worked with ceramics since 1980. In 2000-2014 she had several commissions for public buldings in Norway, using pigmented laminated building glass produced at Planglasteknik ab in Stockholm. 1988-92 she was professor at Bergen National Academy of the Arts and later professor II at the same institution (1999-2002). She has also been teaching at Academy of Design and Craft (HDK) in Gothenburg. Heuch had a number of solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions since 1977 in Norway and abroad. She is represented in all the relevant public collections in Norway (1977-2019).

Nina Malterud shows works from 2016-22. Her work refers to historical forms within ceramics such as tiles and dishes, however with more focus on expression than function. In the later years she has refined processes of reglazing and refiring several times, facilitating interaction between the layers of glazes for surprising results. Stretched rectangles, first being dishes but now images at the wall, are typical for this way of working. She is also showing five large tiles of unglazed earthenware with painted stripes in clay colours. Pale ovals on the wall origin from the form of a tray.

Nina Malterud (born in Oslo 1951) is educated at the National College of Art and Design in Oslo 1971-74 and has been working with ceramics since 1975, in Oslo and later in Bergen. In the 1970s she was active in establishing The Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts and the journal Kunsthåndverk (Crafts). From 1994 she was professor in ceramics at the Bergen National Academy of the Arts (KHiB) and 2002-2010 she was rector at the same institution. She has had a number of solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions since 1976, she has done public commissions with large pots and tiles and she is represented in all the relevant public collections in Norway. She did a comprehensive retrospective solo exhibition at KODE Art Museum in Bergen in 2022.
