KRISTINE ERVIK

Oh, this old thing?

6 November - 21 December 2025

Drawing inspiration from the visible signs of aging and the physical decay of the human body, Kristine Ervik has created a jewelry series that ranges from simple finger rings to more complex woven pieces. The pieces are made of silver, steel, and brass, and crafted through casting, cold forging, and chainmail techniques.

In Oh, this old thing? Ervik draws attention to society’s dismissive attitudes toward the natural and the unaltered body, introducing an alternative perspective on what is considered desirable and beautiful. Her work connects past and present while also pointing forward. Through an ancient craft tradition rooted in both jewelry making and the metalwork of the battlefield, Ervik evokes a sense of history and rediscovery, opening a space for both close examination and admiration. She highlights a powerful and storied body - an armor that carries marks of life experience — inviting the viewer to approach process and transformation with recognition, acceptance, and anticipation.

Kristine Ervik (b. 1990, Fredrikstad, Norway) was educated at the Oslo National Academy of the Arts and the Estonian Academy of Arts in Tallinn, Estonia. Her work has been shown in numerous group exhibitions in Norway and abroad, including Nearness – Art Jewellery and Wearable Ideas (NK50 anniversary exhibition) at Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art, Norwegian Association for Arts and Crafts Annual Exhibition 2023 at the National Museum in Oslo, The Marzee International Graduate Exhibition 2019, and during Munich Jewelry Week. In 2020, she was selected for Talente Munich with four works.
