Hanne Haukom (b. 1967)

Hanne Haukom creates ceramic vase forms using the coiling technique and almost no tools. The vase is both a practical, ritual, and mythical object which, like ceramic craftsmanship itself, has accompanied humankind for millennia and influenced the development of our societies and civilizations. For Haukom, the interaction between clay and glaze is a source of mutual reinforcement and energy that gives the vases life. She does not seek the predictable, symmetrical, or perfectionist; rather, it is important to her that the vases are allowed to exist by virtue of being themselves.

Haukom studied at the National College of Art and Design in Bergen from 1991 to 1997. In recent years, she has held solo exhibitions at Halden Art Association, Galleri Ask, Galleri Lerverk (SE), and Galleri Visby (DK), alongside participation in numerous group exhibitions, including at Kunstforeningen Verdens Ende, Vedholmen Galleri, Geilo Kulturkyrkje, and Kilen Galleri. Haukom’s works have been acquired by, among others, the Oslo Municipal Art Collection, KODE and Nordenfjeldske Kunstindustrimuseum. In addition, Haukom has extensive experience in arts policy and has participated in a wide range of projects as a curator, project manager, artistic director, and jury member.
