Felieke van der Leest kombinerer ulike tekstilteknikker, som hekling, med dyrebare metaller og plastikk leketøy. Objektene som vises i galleriet er fra serien Jewelrassic Park, der dinosaurfigurer er gjort om til anvendelige smykker. Innen smykkekunsten har van der Leest utviklet sitt helt unike figurative uttrykk fylt av humor og seriøse aktuelle tema, som naturbevaring og menneskets forhold til dyr. Kunsthistorikeren og arkitekten Ward Schrijver beskriver van der Leests arbeider slik:
This is exactly why this kind of work is called art jewellery: it pleases the senses, lifts the spirit, but it also makes one ponder about the realities of life and the way we live it. Its origin lies not in using precious metals and sparkling stones to dazzle the onlookers, but to refresh the mind. Felieke van der Leest is a true master in balancing idealistic, political statements on the one hand, with beauty, humour and craftsmanship on the other. She has enriched the world with very unorthodox yet alluring and very wearable jewellery pieces.
Felieke van der Leest (f. 1968) har bodd og arbeidet i Øystese siden 2008. Hun er utdannet fra Gerrit Rietveld Academy i Amsterdam og har siden den gang gjort utallige utstillinger over hele verden. Hun er representert i flere internasjonale samlinger, som f eks Cooper Hewitt Museum, New York, Victoria & Albert Museum, London, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston og Hiko Mizuno Collection, Tokyo. Hun har også blitt nominert til flere internasjonale priser for sine arbeider.
