Format at Enter Art Fair 2023

24-27 September 2023

Format was participating at Enter Art Fair in Copenhagen 24–27 September 2023. The gallery showed works by two of the most exciting talents within the craft and design field in Norway. Their work varies in techniques and artistic approach, and they distinguish themselves with innovative and impressive work. The carefully selected artists reflect the different tendencies within the unique and celebrated Nordic craft and design scene.

Ali Gallefoss

Ali Gallefoss’ work refuses to be confined to the static categories of art and design. Instead, his work sits amongst them, flowing between organic shapes, sculptural forms and architectural structures. Just as his work sits between art and design, they also play with notions of Maximalism and Minimalism. These objects, in their denial of categorization, are almost an intervention to space – as materials ooze into each other, collapsing definitions and coming alive in the room and your hands. In working with materials such as aluminum and clay, he combines new and old, hard and soft. Unexpected forms and textures move these objects from pure functionality to something more visceral and experiential. Aluminum flows like liquid, clay mutates itself into new forms.

Christina Peel

Christina Peel’s work is a quest into the geometric forms, volume and structure of the material she is working with – into their interplay and relationships. She works with clay and creates complex wall pieces which relate either to a specific framed size or to a site-specific project. For Enter Art Fair Peel will showcase a new series of wall sculptures in porcelain. These works are experienced as rhythmic abstract compositions where the details, being variations on a common element, make up a whole. Here the interplay between form and color can be experienced as something constant or as being in a state of flux, and very small movements by the viewer can modify the perception of the work.
